Atlanta native Kay Thomas, aka KayBear Cosplay, brings her brand of excellent Cosplay to her Social Media accounts and the world is a much more beautiful place because of it. She leans mainly towards gaming Cosplay, with some horror and comic Cosplay mixed in, but she does it with the kind of style that uplifts geek culture. She’s not afraid to get bloody to bring up a bit of zombie and a dash of Metal Gear Solid. Like any successful Cosplayer she takes her business seriously but knows how to be down-to-earth and and have fun with what she obviously loves. Her girl-next-door beauty doesn’t hurt her at all.
Kay Thomas is a Freelance artist and Student in Altanta who started seriously Cosplaying under the expressive sobriquet KayBear Cosplay. Kay creates all of her own costumes and most of her props as well as attends conventions, interacts with fans on her social networks while she has a growing fan base eagerly waiting to see her next project. After a year of putting herself out there as well as attending major cons like Momcon, Dragon Con and Anime Con she’s had to deal with the usual assortment of racist trolls who say stupid shit like “you’re to Black to play a white character” or being called a “‘fake geek girl” one of the dumbest pronouncement in geek culture, as well as having people create fake accounts under her name to profit from her brand, she’s now walk through the fire of being a new Cosplayer and if she continues to handle it without engaging these trolls she’ll be just fine. (Hey, KayBear Fans, you can help too by flooding her comments with more positivity to wash over the negativity.)
Of course while I love what Kay Thomas does I’m hope she realizes she should have a website and if she decided to do a video channel I believe it would be a hit. So far her personalized approach to creating her costumes and engaging with fans is the right one. She has a patreon you can donate to (link below) to help her cause and can be found on Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram. I believe she on her way to great things and can’t wait to see what Cosplay she has next. Good luck out there KayBear, consider me a huge fan.
