There is a dark side to the Internet and sooner or later we, and director of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 2 James Gunn, finds it. The dark side is attention. Now that pretty much everyone on the planet has this access to our favorite celebrities we forget that pretty much everyone has access to our favorite celebrities. So when I create a tweet or post or comment telling Kerry Washington that I’m really her one true love and none of her other successful rich guys could measure up to me, I’m not the only one saying it. We all post in our little bubbles looking for reaction to our dick pic or topless selfie but people who become famous – or just known – are signing into or picking up their phones to hundreds or thousands of tweets, posts and comments. Some of them try to take a proactive role in it, like James Gunn. He loves engaging with the fans. But the fans keep asking him the same question over and over again. “When’s the Guardian’s of the Galaxy 2 trailer coming.” It’s one thing if James Gunn posted a set photo or made a comment. However, according to reports, the fans are asking this on anything the man posts. If he posts a photo of a family barbecue, or going to Disney World, or wishing a friend “Happy Birthday” too many fans are still asking about the trailer. This prompted James Gunn to put out a statement saying:
And, yes, usually this is just people being enthusiastic and begging for the trailer, or telling me how they’re going to die if they don’t get it, or simply asking when it’s going to come out even though I can’t answer. That’s all fun and fair – again, I appreciate the interest. But when I post a photo of a much needed getaway to Palm Springs and someone comments “Why aren’t you working on the goddamn Guardians trailer?” or I post a tribute to the passing of Gene Wilder and someone comments “Where the fuck is the trailer, asshole?” — well it gets a little uncool.
Actually it’s pathetic, but let’s call it uncool because people who do it might not know hard words like “pathetic.” These are not single comments, because Guardians of the Galaxy was one of Marvel’s biggest hits and now damn near a household name, so if your reading this you should be aware that asking the question is out of context and you’re not the only one asking. So I agree with Mr. Gunn. Chill the hell out, the Trailer will be here. It’s a goddamn summer movie, of course the trailer will come.
