The internet was doing a happy dance this weekend at the announcement that Jon Favreau would be reprising his character Happy Hogan in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming movie being somehow made by Marvel but still owned by Sony. This was reported by Variety and the rest of the Internet took off with it. Somehow people are thinking this may be Jon Favreaus back-door reentry into directing Marvel Movies. A strange sentiment consider his one Marvel movie served more to make the star a household name but the movie itself wasn’t exactly one of Marvel most well regarded. Will this be Jon Favreau’s back-door return as a director? Beats the hell out of me, I’m just glad Marvel Studios in in control of this movie because they should be in control of all their properties.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is being directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Marisa Tomei as hot Aunt May and Disney channel star Zendaya as possibly a black Mary Jane. (Marvel hasn’t exactly confirmed this to the Donald Trump supporter types going ape-shit about it.) The sad news is that J.K. Simmons isn’t returning to be the perfect J. Johan Jameson he was before. (Sorry Marvel Zombies, DC snatched him up.) I guess we can’t have everything. Spider-Man Homecoming is due out on July 7, 2017 so there might be a teaser trailer in our Christmas stockings this year, kid. Most certainly a full Superbowl trailer.
