One month and a billion dollars later Black Panther has broken so many records even the Alt-Right is having the problem hating that there are so many black people in the years biggest movie so far. It started out with ticket presales. (My Review Here). Those who are supposed to know better than me tracked Black Panther pre-sales at around $90 million, but as soon as tickets went on sale it reaches $170 million in presales along. For that moment it makes Marvel’s Black Panther the largest superhero movie pre-sales ever.
On its opening day Black Panther earned $25.2 million at the U.S. box office (See: Box Office Mojo), not only doubling Deadpool’s previous February preview record of $12.7 million but also becoming one of the highest-grossing previews ever for a superhero film. Black Panther passed Captain America: Civil War ($25 million) to score the second-highest preview gross for a Marvel movie – behind only Avengers: Age of Ultron ($27.6 million) – and the fourth highest for a superhero film, behind The Dark Knight Rises ($30.6 million), Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice ($27.7 million), and the Avengers film. On its opening day – 02/17/2018 – Black Panther grossed an estimated $75.81 million, thus topping Deadpool’s $47.3 million to set a new February opening day record. Black Panther earned a whopping $192 million domestic on its opening weekend. And finally, as the title says, with a combined domestic box office of $698,249,242 and an International Box Office gross of $646,036,999 Black Panther has moved to being one of the fastest to right the billion-dollar club and the highest grossing Super Hero movie. Not bad for a movie that’s not only a game changer but a cultural icon.
