On November 29th, 2018 Netflix Cancels Daredevil after what everyone thought was a successful third season. This time I totally understand why fans and various geeks lost their collective shit over this one. Before anyone says this is a case of a geek overreaction, let me remind you that Netflix is a pay service. They ask us to pay a monthly charge to watch their stuff. So if we are not getting what we paid for, why the fuck should we pay for it? I’m not suggesting anyone cancel their membership, I’m suggesting that Daredevil – or even Luke Cage and/or Iron Fist – is the reason some have subscribed in the first place.
When Netflix canceled Iron Fist, that was understandable. It was obvious from the beginning that the showrunners did not have a clue how to handle the character. Then they canceled Luke Cage and that made no sense. People keep saying how the 2nd season wasn’t as strong as the first season and on that, I call bullshit. Everyone says that about every TV show ever made. After the 3rd season of Daredevil, which had to be it’s strongest, everyone figures Matt Murdock was sage, right? His show is water cooler conversation every time it comes out. Daredevil (and Luke Cage) transcended their comic roots to become what so many people considered high-quality TV. So what the fuck happened?
Here’s what I believe, and it’s only a theory because things change all the time. Netflix cancels Daredevil, before they canceled Luke Cage and Iron Fist. They are also slowly removing Marvel movies from their lists. Disney is planning a streaming service and there have been rumors that Marvel might have one under them as well. It really sounds to me like Disney is gathering their properties so they can offer them under their own service. This is a theory because Disney plans to make their streaming service family friendly and Netflix Marvel shows are not for the whole family. I guess we will just have to wait and see how things go.
