After losing director Rupert Wyatt it looked like Channing Tatum and FOX next stand alone X-Flick looked a little shaky. Given the success of both X-Men reboots and the need for everyone in Hollywood to expand their films into multi-universe franchises (thanks, of course, to Marvel) it’s not surprise that new information has been coming out about this movie. They still have Joshua Zetumer writing the screenplay, Simon Kinberg is still aboard as director and Channing Tatum is still set to star. Now, it seems, Doug Liman is in talks to take over the director’s chair on the project and there’s even talk of what the story for the movie will be like.
According to the folks at Collider Simon Kinberg told Collider:
Considering the character is a Thief whose part of a society of thieves this sounds like the right direction for their characters. In comics Gambit was also part of the Assassin’s Guild but they focused more on the heist aspect, even if the often got involved in huge X-Men super hero battles. If the new takes on the X-Men as demonstrated by First Class and Days of Future Class is any hint on where they are going It sounds like this movie will be fine. All we need to do is simply forget X-Men Origins: Wolverine every existed.
